Abstract

This paper, intends to survey major ship detection models and techniques based on conventional methods of modelling statistical data and also models based on deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) using satellite-borne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data. We aim to extract current research directions and limitations of existing models to gain insight understanding and suggestions from vast amount of research in ship detection using SAR. The literature review addresses key methods demonstrated by researchers for ship detections in SAR. Despite of rigorous research in this domain the application of organized knowledge is still being explored to demonstrate ship detection in SAR imagery field. Research papers and articles were gathered from standard publishers from last decade. The proceedings from significant publications in conference and transactions were included in this review
