Real-Time IoT-based Air Quality Monitoring System using ESP32 and Cloud Integration

Abstract

Atmospheric pollution in cities is a public health hazard that necessitates innovative monitoring technologies beyond standard station systems. In this study, we present an inexpensive air quality monitoring system based on the IoT approach, utilizing the ESP32 microcontroller. The system comprises MQ-135 gas sensors, MQ-9 carbon monoxide sensors, GP2Y1010AU0F optical dust sensor for PM2.5 measurement, and DHT22 temperature/humidity sensor. Using the dual-core ESP32 microcon-troller, we perform efficient data processing and real-time cloud transmission. A mobile application provides users with upto- date AQI readings. Experimental results prove the system functions without significant delay.
