Abstract

Design and Development of an AI-Enabled Smart Assistive Navigation and Safety System Integrating Wearable Technology, Computer Vision, and Sensor-Based Obstacle Detection for Enhancing Mobility and Independence of Visually Impaired Individuals For any normal individuals’ access to any of the day to day life and things is easier, we are able to see the world around us, listen to the chirpings of the birds, walk to the places and do other sort of works easily. But what about the people who are physically disabled? They face many challenges in performing their daily chores and other sort of works, like, communication, mobility and most important personal safety. Is there any way to improve their day-to-day lifestyle? Definitely, advancements in the modern technology like sensors, electronics, AI have made it possible to improve to such individuals. This paper discusses the various assistive technology such as, wearable health monitoring devices, smart wheel chairs, voice controlled systems, prosthetic limbs etc. These technologies help disabled individuals to perform their everyday tasks independently and with safety. The study also proposes a simple electronic assistance device based on sensors, microcontrollers to help individuals to detect obstacles to move with safety/safely. The main aim of this research is to highlight the importance of technology in creating an inclusive society and reducing the challenges faced by the physically disabled individuals. The work done is a part of the mini-project activity done by the students under the guidance of the author.
