Abstract
The work examines the evolving role of Global Positioning System (GPS) technology in enabling smart infrastructure and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). GPS has become a fundamental component in modern urban development by supporting real-time location tracking, traffic monitoring, and route optimization. The integration of GPS with communication networks and sensor-based systems allows efficient management of transportation flows, reducing congestion and improving safety. It also facilitates advanced applications such as autonomous vehicles, fleet management, emergency response coordination, and smart traffic signaling. Furthermore, GPS data contributes to infrastructure planning by providing insights into mobility patterns and usage trends. Despite challenges related to signal accuracy, security, and urban obstructions, ongoing advancements are enhancing their reliability and precision. Overall, GPS-driven solutions are playing a crucial role in building sustainable, efficient, and intelligent transportation ecosystems, thereby supporting the broader vision of smart cities and improved quality of life.
