Network Security Firewall Configuration Tool

Abstract
The escalating complexity of cyber threats necessitates a transition from manual firewall administration to automated, high-precision security orchestration. This paper introduces a Network Security Firewall Configuration Tool that integrates a Python Flask backend with a React frontend to streamline policy enforcement via RESTful API connections to firewall devices and JIRA. The system incorporates Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and TLS 1.3 to strengthen management-plane security, while automation modules reduce configuration latency and incident response cycles. A mathematical framework—comprising Automation Speedup Ratio, Mean Time to Remediate (MTTR), Security Gain Index, and Resource Utilization Efficiency—was employed to quantify performance. Experimental evaluation in a controlled testbed demonstrated a 6.9× acceleration in configuration tasks, a 73% reduction in MTTR, and a 75% decrease in unauthorized access probability compared to manual CLI methods. Administrators achieved nearly 2.75× higher task throughput, reallocating effort toward strategic operations. These results validate the tool’s ability to enhance scalability, resilience, and operational efficiency, while providing a foundation for future integration of machine learning–driven proactive threat detection and gamified dashboards for improved situational awareness.
