A Comprehensive Review of IoT-based Water Quality Monitoring Techniques for Shrimp Aquaculture

Abstract
Shrimp aquaculture is a major contributor to the world aquaculture sector and plays a significant role in food security, jobs and export, Maintaining the water quality parameters as they should be is a daunting task, because the parameters controlling the health of the shrimp like temperature, pH, DO. affect the health of the shrimp directly. The conventional monitoring tools available to the entrepreneurs based on water sampling and laboratory tests are time consuming, laborious and no real time results are available. This paper presents a review of the water quality monitoring system in shrimp farms based on IOT platform. The system architecture and the various sensors used and the data acquisition, the data analytical platforms based on cloud computing for analysis, real time monitoring, IPO support are discussed. The case studies of shrimp farms in Thailand, Ecuador, Vietnam showing the usefulness of these systems in practical life with the increase in productivity obtained from the resources used from that. It concur with and helps to increase the stability and efficiency of the resources to inform social responsibility. Research is given to future prospects of development in artificial intelligence, machine learning and bigdata. Edge computing and wireless mode of communication are discussed in this paper. The limitations and problems in the implementation of the systems in practice like cost, energy management, cyber security etc are dealt in this paper. So this review aims to give a view of the entire field and gives a base for future work in intelligent and sustainable shrimp aquaculture. The importance of IOT in increasing the efficiency of the industry and scalability and environmentally sustainability is established.
