Abstract

Smart farming is transforming traditional agriculture by incorporating advanced technologies into different domains. These technologies include machine learning, renewable energy systems, and embedded hardware and software platforms. These innovations lead to increased productivity, optimize resource utilization, and promote long-term environmental sustainability. The convergence of these technologies promotes real-time data analysis, predictive decision-making, precision input application, and automation across farming operations. Further, the development and deployment of smart farming solutions become more technically sophisticated and commercially valuable. Thus, the strategic use of intellectual property (IP) becomes crucial. This paper explores the various forms of IP applicable to different components of smart farming technologies. It further examines how these rights can be effectively leveraged for innovation protection, collaborative development, licensing arrangements, and technology transfer mechanisms.
