Cloud-based Disaster Recovery Solutions: Architecture, Challenges and Performance Evaluation

Abstract
The increasing reliance on digital infrastructure has made disaster recovery a critical requirement for ensuring business continuity in modern organizations. Traditional onpremise disaster recovery solutions often suffer from high costs, limited scalability, and prolonged recovery times, making them unsuitable for dynamic and data-intensive environments. Cloud-based disaster recovery, commonly referred to as Disaster Recovery as a Service (D RaaS), has emerged as an effective alternative by leveraging virtualization, automation, and geographically distributed cloud resources. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of cloud-based disaster recovery solutions, focusing on system architecture, recovery mechanisms, and performance evaluation. A cloud-based disaster recovery framework is proposed that integrates automate dreplication, orchestration, and monitoring to achieve low Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO). Comparative analysis demonstrates the advantages of cloud-based disaster recovery over traditional approaches in terms of cost efficiency, scalability, and availability. Challenges, security concerns, and future research directions are also discussed.
