Comparative Study of Seismic Performance of a Multi- Span Aqueduct with and without Advanced Damping Systems-a Review

Abstract
Aqueducts are critical hydraulic structures responsible for continuously moving water over a long distance. Sometimes, They are supported by multi-span bridge-like structures. The seismic performance of these structure is highly affected by complex fluidstructures interaction. In order to improve the resilience of such structures, advance damping and isolation systems have been introduced in recent years. The seismic response of a multispan aqueduct with and without damping systems, such as seismic isolation bearings, tuned mass/liquid dampers, and viscous dampers, is compared in this study. This comparative study highlights the need to implement advanced damping technologies in aqueduct design to improve safety, serviceability, and earthquake resistance of structure.
