Interlinking Lakes as a Climate Change Adaptation Strategy to Combat Groundwater Decline in Bhandara District, Central India

Abstract

The groundwater is threatened by climate change and extreme usage. The study concentrates on the reduction in groundwater level at the level of the Bhandara District, also known as the "District of Lakes" in the state of Maharashtra. The paper analyzes how the inter-linking of lakes can be a climate adaptation strategy for raising the level of groundwater. The study researches that inter-linking lakes can enhance recharge by 10-20%, improve drought resilience, and ensure reliable water availability. This is a climate adaptation strategy that aims to achieve a specific goal associated with the manifestation concerning the fulfillment of SDG goals 6 and 13.
