Abstract

The growing global demand for clean and sustainable energy has accelerated the deployment of photovoltaic (PV) systems as a major source of renewable power generation. As PV installations increasingly contribute a substantial share to the electricity mix, their integration into existing power grids presents several technical and operational challenges. Unlike conventional generation, solar energy is inherently intermittent and dependent on environmental conditions, leading to voltage fluctuations, frequency instability and power quality issues. Effective grid integration of PV systems demands careful coordination between generation, storage and distribution mechanisms. Challenges such as reactive power control, harmonic distortion and mismatch between peak generation and load demand complicate stable operation. With the emergence of smart grid technologies, adaptive control schemes, power electronic interfaces and real-time monitoring have become crucial in mitigating these issues. This paper explores the technical aspects, existing barriers and emerging solutions for improving the grid compatibility of PV systems, with a focus on ensuring efficient, reliable and sustainable integration into modern power networks.
