Abstract

In a world striving to meet the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Traditional Indian Knowledge (TIK) stands out as a time-tested, holistic, and culturally embedded system capable of guiding sustainable progress. Drawing from ancient wisdom rooted in harmony with nature and community-centric practices, this study explores how various domains of TIK—ranging from Ayurveda and Yoga to Vastu Shastra and Vrikshayurveda—align directly with key SDGs such as health, education, sustainable agriculture, and water management. The paper provides a detailed analysis of how indigenous Indian practices can offer practical, low-cost, and scalable solutions to modern global challenges. For example, traditional farming and water conservation techniques are being revived in several Indian states to support environmental goals, while Ayurveda and Yoga are increasingly accepted as complementary healthcare systems. Furthermore, the Gurukul system and women-led crafts empower education and gender equality, demonstrating the relevance of TIK in today's world. A multidisciplinary approach has been adopted to bridge the gap between ancient knowledge and contemporary global strategies. The paper also highlights supportive government initiatives, digital documentation platforms, and academic research that validate and modernize TIK. Overall, the study presents TIK as not only a repository of cultural heritage but a powerful enabler of sustainable development in line with the 2030 Agenda.
