Abstract

In conventional converter, the output voltage is linearly dependent on duty cycle. The later having value within unity becomes more effective if it is raised to high degree. In the present paper, a flyback converter is presented whose output is cubic function of duty cycle. The ratio of output to input voltage, known as voltage conversion ratio or voltage gain, as it depends on cubic power of duty cycle and later being less than unity, is found improved. Also, smaller change in the duty cycle is reflected as change in the output for which a relatively large change in the duty cycle is required, in conventional converter. A relatively larger change desired in the output can be obtained as compared with conventional converter for the same duty cycle. A comparison of duty cycle for varying inputs in case of the conventional and proposed scheme is presented for a fixed output voltage. The results are presented for a converter of 48 V output, 48 W rating.
