Modified Incremental Conductance Algorithm for MPPT in SPV Systems under Varying Temperature and Irradiance Conditions

Abstract

Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) in Solar Photo Voltaic (SPV) systems is designed to optimize power extraction from the PV panels. To achieve maximum efficiency, and optimized power extraction, MPPT is essential in solar systems. In this paper, a maximum power point using the Modified Incremental Conductance (MIC) algorithm has been developed and evaluated for its efficacy under changing environmental circumstances, particularly irradiance and temperature levels. The proposed technique employs the change in conductance of photovoltaic cells and the operating point related to voltage and current to determine the slope of the power characteristics, therefore pinpointing the maximum power point as the apex of the curve. The aimed MIC algorithm has been employed in a DC-DC boost converter connected to a solar panel, subjected to simulation and testing using MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of the MIC algorithm in monitoring the MPP in SPV systems with rapidly fluctuating temperature and irradiance conditions.
