Advancing Healthcare with Wearable Sensors: From Historical Developments to Future Horizons and Ethical Challenges

Abstract

With the advent of wearable sensor technology, doctors and other medical professionals are now able to always track the vital signs of their patients, as it happens. This paper provides a comprehensive examination of the different uses, problems, historical evolutions, and moral questions involved with wearable sensors in medicine. Initially developed as experimental prototypes, these sensors have undergone significant advancements in miniaturization, sensor integration, and sophisticated signal processing. These advancements have expanded the use of wearable sensors and insured that they are more precise and dependable tools for the evaluation of human health. Wearable sensors are used in many different areas of medication, including sports medication, psychology, cardiology, and chronic illness management. They allow individuals to take an active role in receiving medical care and at the same time, they give health care providers objective information to make educated decisions. With the ability to merge wearable sensor data into the current healthcare infrastructure, a new age of preventative, customized care has emerged. But, even with this revolutionary technology, many problems still exist. Ethical issues, ranging from the necessity of informed consent to the protection of privacy of data, must be stringently considered in order to be used responsibly. But as far as the future of wearable sensors in healthcare, it looks pretty cool, with things like multimodal sensors, artificial intelligence, and implantable devices, health monitoring is going to be a whole new ball park. This type of progress could very well lead to a new age of predictive/preventative medicine.
