Abstract

This study examines vulnerabilities in cloud security configurations, focusing on commonly implemented authentication mechanisms, access control models, and adaptive security measures. Utilising a large dataset of cloud configurations, we applied descriptive and correlation analyses to identify patterns and associations among crucial security features. Based on their Security Scores, a threshold-based classification method was employed to categorise configurations as high-risk or low-risk. Key findings reveal that configurations lacking multifactor authentication, granular access controls, and geolocation restrictions are significantly more vulnerable. This study concludes with targeted recommendations, emphasising the need for adaptive controls and Zero-Trust principles to mitigate prevalent risks. Our analysis contributes to developing more resilient cloud environments by identifying critical gaps in traditional security configurations.
