Supervision of Behaviour and Position Sensuous System for People having Mild Cognitive Impairments

Abstract
The prevalence of disorders causing cognitive impairment is rising, primarily as a result of population aging and longer life expectancies. People having mild cognitive impairments or those in the advance stages of dementia may be able to long lasting life, better independently, and in a more secure environment at home with the use of sensory and monitoring devices. This work describes a wearable-based wireless sensor network (WSN) that gathers step and position data both indoors and outdoors and reports it over a long-range wide area network (LoRa WAN). The measured data from each wireless wearable sensor (WWS) is transmitted over a long-range (LoRa) radio link with minimal power consumption. An accelerometer is used for a step detector algorithm, indoor room-level localization system based on infrared sensors, in addition to which an outdoor positioning module of the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is employed. Caretakers and medical services can access these sensory data through an easy-touse internet application that is stored in a database. In situations when a patient may be disoriented, this can be used to identify unusual alterations in the patient's regular routine and to determine the user's location. Caregivers' smartphones are also equipped with warnings that sound when a potentially dangerous circumstance arises, such the outpatient leaving a designated region or being in one spot for an extended period of time. Because it helps identify behavioral changes and maintains caregivers' peace of mind, the suggested sensuous system can do assist and extend the period of time that patients with MCI or those in the early stages of dementia can live independently.
