Abstract

Seashell species classification plays a pivotal role in marine biology, ecology, and conservation efforts, facilitating the understanding of marine ecosystem diversity, monitoring changes, and forming conservation strategies. However, the complexity of seashell morphologies poses challenges, making manual identification laborious and hindering largescale studies. Developing user-friendly, automated tools like image recognition algorithms could streamline classification processes, enhancing efficiency and enabling broader contributions to marine biodiversity understanding and conservation. This involves preprocessing a shell dataset, resizing images, assigning scientific labels, and extracting color, shape, and texture features. These features are crucial for classification, aiding in identifying various species within categories such as gastropods, bivalves, and cephalopods, ultimately contributing to the validation and improvement of classification algorithms for seashell species.
