Abstract
Today population is largely concentrated in areas with increased seismic risk.
Therefore, a shear wall is a form of construction technology needed to withstand such greater
earthquake forces.to increases the strength of RC frame building, shear wall is used as
structural element. Shear walls serve partition from an architectural standpoint as well as
supporting loads physically. They are most suited for supporting high rise building due to their
extreme strength and planer rigidity. Determining the effective, efficient and optimal shape as
well as the location of the shear wall is necessary.
In this thesis, the optimal shapes of shapes of shear wall in tall building is studied. In this study
the analysis of high rise building with shear wall of various shapes is taken into account. Using
ETABS software, the deflection, stiffness, storey shear, and storey drift of the high-rise building
are examined.
The analysis finding regarding deflection, storey shear, storey drift, and stiffness are contrasted
with those of an identical high rise structure lacking shear walls.
