Abstract
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), is the continuous commitment by businesses
andcorporations across the globe to behave ethically. There are many challenges for companies
like profit making, market share, sustainable development and social issues (equality,
education, environment and poverty). In India, many companies are doing their activities.
However, the North Eastern Region (NER) of India is the least soughtregion for CSR activities.
If we observe the last five years spent on CSR, the average expenditure is 1.5% of national
spent. Though NER constitute eight states.
It is an attempt to study community perceptions on CSR and analyze the CSR practices and
perceptions in NER. Data was collected by the questionnaire method and secondary sources.
812 responses were collected on various CSR activitiesas prescribed in schedule VII of
Companies, Act 2013 on Likert scale from all states of NER.
The respondents fairly perceived CSR activities from the corporations regarding gender
equality, protection of national heritage, artand culture, training for promotional sports and
education. Neutral perception was there for hunger, poverty and malnutrition,
environmentalsustainability, measurement for the benefits of armed forces and contributions to
technology incubators. Rural development was perceived low in the NER. More industries
should be attractedtowards the states in NER. There is a pressing need to address CSR
activities regarding employment, skill development, technologyincubators and rural
development andto shareuseful information with the community by various means for better
perception.
