BEST PRACTICES FOR BIOMETRIC-BASED IDENTITY CREATION IN THE E-SOCIETY
Conference: Fifth International Conference on Advances in Information Technology and Mobile Communication
AbstractA unique identity can be created for every person by assigning a smart card with the multi-modal biometrics information (e.g., fingerprints, iris, face and signature). In this paper, an optimal way of storing the multimodal biometric data into the smart card is presented using the efficient compression formats. Few biometrics namely fingerprints, iris and face already have the optimal and efficient compression formats like WSQ, JPEG2000 and JPEG respectively. A new compression format is proposed for signature biometrics, i.e., SIGN format. Each pixel value is transformed as a single bit in the compressed signature data based on some empirical threshold. Experimental results show that the proposed compression algorithm is more optimal and reliable. |
