Abstract
Vehicle dynamics plays an important role in driving systems, especially in
congested traffic situations at very low speeds. In order to ensure safety during driving
accurate controllers are needed. The design of a fractional PI controller for low speed
control problem is attempted in this paper. A system to adapt the vehicles speed to avoid or
mitigate possible accidents is developed. The performance comparison of various controllers
like PI controller, fuzzy PI controller and fractional PI controller iscarried out. Results
show that fractional PI controller gives better performance than the other controllers in
terms of settling time, rise time, maximum overshoot etc.
