Abstract

This study was initiated for the purpose of understanding the tribological behavior of three commercially available iron based hardfacing electrodes with varying chromium, tungsten and carbon content. These electrodes were deposited on mild steel using manual metal arc welding (MMAW) and the influence of added alloy elements on the friction and wear properties of the hardfacing layers was investigated. The results showed that different hardfacing electrodes containing different chemical composition had large effects on high stress abrasion (Wear) resistance and friction properties of the deposit. The Friction and wear tests were performed using a pin-on-disc (POD) machine
