Providing Cyber Security in SCADA Network by NTRU Key Management

Abstract

To control industrial processes autonomously, system which is used to monitor this\nprocess is called Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). The communication\nprotocols used in SCADA network are vulnerable to cyber attacks with different threats to the\nsystem.. Currently RSA or ECC like asymmetric cryptographic algorithms are used as security\nstandards in SCADA network. When the security algorithms used in real-time, there is some\nperformance issues are raised because of constraints in the hardware limitations. To avoid these\nissues, the proposed system consists of faster and light-weighted NTRU (Number Theory\nResearch Unit) cryptographic algorithm for data integrity and authentication in securing\nSCADA communication. The proposed system simulated in NS2 to compare the performance of\nNTRU with other traditional algorithm. The NTRU algorithm reduces memory overhead and\ncomputation in SCADA systems with hardware limitations in real time environment.
