Abstract

One of the important concept of identification of the human beings is\nthe biometrics. This biometrics is defined as the art of identifying a human being\nby different methods. Identifying or verifying one identify using biometrics is\nattracting considerable attention in this modern day automated world, one of the\nmain reason being the security issues in various places. Biometrics is the\nbeautiful science of automatic identification of individuals that uses the unique\nphysical or behavioral traits/characteristics of individuals to recognize them.\nSince biometrics is extremely difficult to forge and cannot be forgotten or stolen,\nbiometric authentication offers a convenient, accurate, irreplaceable and high\nsecure alternative for an individual, which makes it has advantages over\ntraditional cryptography-based authentication schemes. This paper gives a brief\nsurvey of the various research works which were carried out by various authors /researchers in the field of biometric recognition under constrained and\nunconstrained environments. The review / survey paper finds as a ready reckoner\nto various authors / researchers who want to do research in the field of biometrics\nusing iris recognition so that once they understand the basics of the works done\nby various authors, they can formulate their own problem and start their research\nwork and arrive at some new contribution in this exciting field of biometrics.
