Abstract

In this paper, performance evaluation and\nanalysis of high speed engine mounted alternator is discussed.\nIn aero-space, power generating unit consists of high speed\nalternator driven by variable speed gas turbine engine and\ndigital engine controller unit to statically convert the alternator\noutput to user power. A high speed also allows direct coupling\nof the alternator to a gas turbine for power generation in\naircraft. Either permanent magnet or homo-polar kind of\nalternators are being used in this kind of applications. Due to\nits compactness, robust construction, and high efficiency\ncharacteristics, high speed alternators are becoming more\npopular in defence sector. An evaluation and analysis of high\nfrequency test data of alternator is necessary to improve its\nefficiency. A dedicated test set up to monitor and capture the\nimportant parameters of engine mounted alternator is\ndeveloped for further analysis purpose. Test set up details,\nInstrumentation, data acquisition and monitoring unit are\npresented in details.
