Abstract

Due to the rapid increase in global energy\nconsumption and the diminishing of fossil fuels, the customer\ndemand for new generation capacities and efficient energy\nproduction, delivery and utilization keeps rising. The micro grid\nconcept has the potential to solve major problems arising from\nlarge penetration of distributed generation in distribution\nsystems. Although the inertia energy in power sources can partly\ncover power unbalances caused by load disturbance or renewable\nenergy fluctuation, it is still hard to maintain the frequency\ndeviation within acceptable ranges. However, electric vehicles\n(EVs) can act as mobile energy storage units, which could be a\nsolution for load frequency control (LFC) in an isolated grid.\nIn this paper, the major issues and challenges in microgrid\ncontrol are discussed, and a review of control strategies and\ntrends is presented.
